SINFONIA (2016-2018)
This project was founded by University of Brescia, in the frame of Health&Wealth theme.
The aim is to propose the use of COSMOS filler as a flame-retardant. This project fits the mission of the EIT RawMaterials, concerning the reuse of waste as raw materials substitution.
University of Brescia participated with Velaworks, to the Business Ideas Competition, promoted by the EIT RawMaterials, for Innovation in Raw Materials.
The mission of the EIT RawMaterials is to foster innovation and entrepreneurship by driving and promoting projects all along the raw materials value chain. The philosophy of the Business Idea competition is to help future potential entrepreneurs in creating technologies and business models with a high growth potential within the raw materials sector and in all related fields.
The proposed idea concerned the reuse of stabilized fly ash as a filler in plastics, to substitute critical raw materials as Sb. The project, STARS (STabilized fly Ash by waste silica for flame Retardants Substitution in plastic composites) was presented.
The project was selected on 9 November 2016, among the 10 best ideas.
After a mentoring to develop a comprehensive business plan, the project accessed to the second part of the competition.
On December 2016 it was announced that the STARS project was the competition winner.
